The videos shown above show the locomotive at speed level 1, travelling extremely slowly over switches and crossings. These crossings in particular pose a problem, as the construction causes power interruptions in this track area. Energy storage devices are only of limited help. The attempts to do this did not result in a breakthrough. The development of a new rail grinder by the Frankfurt model railway depot and its installation in the 111 brought the desired success.

The specifications were:

  • The rail grinder must be long enough to bridge interruptions.
  • it may only be as wide as the rail
  • It should be possible to install it in almost any place on the underbody of the locomotive, regardless of whether it is made of plastic or metal
  • it must be springy
  • he must be inconspicuous
  • Wear ratio between rail and rail grinder must be equal
  • the power collection system must be expandable and extendable at any time

Important!

The locomotive model shown here is the prototype that has been available to me for development work for 5 years now and still is and has had to endure a lot.

The prototype is not for sale!

After more than 5 years it obviously has some signs of wear but that is just like in real life and looks natural.

A very loyal companion who sometimes made me despair, gave me many sleepless nights but also provided me with valuable services and insights, ensured that I always found new ideas and solutions and continues to do so.

Real slow driving! Speed level 1; driving time 1min. = 45mm

There is no more possible!

Note on slow driving.

The slow speed test on the test track of the Frankfurt model railway depot produced the following results.

Table oval with 3.64m long track made of straight track pieces and curved R2 radii.

The 111 needs for this journey at speed level 1 = 1h 27min 54sec

Drive of the 111 on the test bench. 0.3V voltage at idle is sufficient.
